We
dream of a society where families are not broken up
by urgent need for survival...
Our Mission
APMM is a cause-oriented regional center committed
to support the migrants' movement through advocacy,
organizing, and building linkages for the advancement
of migrants' rights.
The name APMM was realized in March 2002 and originally
came from the Asia Pacific Mission for Migrant Filipinos
or APMMF which was established in 1984. APMM is working
with different nationalities of migrants particularly
in Hong Kong and South Korea.
Our Vision
We are now working towards helping build a movement
of migrants of different nationalities in the Asia
Pacific and Middle East (APME). We envision this as
organized into a strong migrant movement, actively
defending their rights, advancing solidarity with
people's movements in the countries where they are
working and linking up with their people's movements
in their home countries.
Source of Funds
Funds are raised through doncations from churches
& groups (local & abroad) and migrant communities,
service institutions and concerned individuals. Donors
and supporters are treated as mission partners.
We
dream and will actively work for a homeland where
there is opportunity for everyone to live a decent
and humane life
Our Programs
Advocacy and Organizing Program (AOP)
In as much as MIGRANTE International is now formed
and serves as the campaign center for migrant Filipinos'
concerns, APMM shall closely coordinate its advocacy
and organizing efforts with MIGRANTE and other migrant
groups of other nationalities in the region. APMM
shall continue to undertake activities to help in
developing a strong movement of migrant workers, especially
in the countries of Asia Pacific, the Middle East
and of the Gulf regions. A comprehensive advocacy
program in these areas will be undertaken to help
in the establishment and strengthening of migrant
workers organizations, especially in APMM focus areas.
Incorporated in this program is the mission and network
building and linkaging.
Education and Research Program (ERP)
APMM recognizes that welfare assistance to individuals
is indispensable but it is merely a palliative solution
and it breeds a dependency that is not developmental
in the long term. Education is a potent tool in organizing.
APMM seeks to raise migrant workers consciousness,
encourage the growth of their own organizing, leadership
development, social services skills like counselling
and para-legal skills. Research serves as an important
part in the overall aducation work.
Women's Program (WP)
APMM shall give primary emphasis to its women program
because almost two-thirds of migrant workers are women
and organizing work will have to be sensitized to
women's concerns in conjunction with migrant workers'
rights.
