The first Regional Conference on Organizing the Migrant Sector was held on October 29 and 30 at the Shih Hsin University in Taipei, Taiwan and attended by 21 grassroots organizers from eight countries in the Asia Pacific region.

Hundreds of women migrant workers are languishing in many jail facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Many of them were victims of fabricated charges by their employers, while others were forced to flee from abusive and exploitative ones.

Faith-based communities hold dialog on children, family and migration
Representatives from the Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist faiths from different countries in the region gathered together last October 8-10 for the Asia Pacific Interfaith Dialogue on Children, Family and Migration in Manila, Philippines. The event was co-organized by the APMM, Migrante International and the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP).

A workshop led by APMM criticized the proposed ILO convention on domestic work as having substantial loopholes that may be used by employers and governments to curtail domestics’ rights.

FDWs in Hong Kong file complaint to ILO vs exclusion from minimum wage
On July 16, the Asian Migrants Coordinating Body, a coalition of eight migrant workers alliances, unions and organizations comprising of five nationalities namely Indonesian, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Thai and Filipinos filed a complaint to the International Labor Organization (ILO) against the exclusion of foreign domestic workers (FDWs) in the statutory minimum wage (SMW) in Hong Kong, even if FDWs are covered by the Labor Ordinance.
