APMM Annual Report 2024: Strengthening Migrant Movement, Championing Migrants’ Rights
2024 has been a significant year because it was APMM’s 40th year of partnering with grassroots migrants and contributing to their movement building in the region.
Committed to working with and for grassroots migrants, the Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants continued our partnership with migrant groups across Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Through our programs of advocacy and campaigns, education and research, and network organizing and cooperation, we linked up with grassroots migrant organizations in both migrant-sending and migrant-receiving countries to amplify their issues and campaigns at the regional and international levels.
In the annual report APMM highlights the work with migrants in further understanding the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and how it can be an effective tool in advocating migrants’ causes. Following several orientation seminars on the GCM co-organized with partners, APMM conducted a regional workshop for both migrants and refugees to develop their own indicators on the GCM. Co-organized with five regional platforms, the workshop successfully delivered an impressive set of GCM indicators that reflected the demands and aspirations of migrants and refugees.
