International Coordinating Body Meetings - April 5 and 6, 2025
The International Coordinating Body (ICB) of the International Migrants Alliance (IMA) convened in two sessions last April 5 and 6, 2025, to lay the groundwork and preparations for the Alliance’s major events and campaigns this year. Thirteen (13) ICB members participated in the two meeting sessions, primarily discussing and sharing insights on the following key agenda points: 1) 6th Global Assembly (6GA), 2) preparation of regional & chapter reports for the 6GA, 3) preparation for May Day 2025, and 4) other related matters.
The meeting began with a presentation of the 6GA Concept Note, which highlights the main issues and struggles of migrants, refugees, and displaced peoples as political and economic tensions continue to affect and threaten lives and security across the globe severely. The ICB members shared their inputs and suggestions, which will be integrated for consideration in revising and finalizing the 6GA Concept Note, as well as other notes on the logistics and program of the assembly.
In conjunction with the 6GA, the ICB is enjoined to start preparing their regional and chapter reports for presentation in the assembly. Members from across all regions and chapters of IMA also have upcoming assemblies, meetings, and conferences to consolidate key insights for input into the report. The IMA Secretariat will be in close coordination with them to provide support.
The last major agenda charts IMA’s plans for International Labor Day (ILD), including suggestions on the platforms and spaces to hold discussions about the situation of migrants, refugees, and displaced peoples in line with ILD. Member organizations are also encouraged to share their ILD-related activities to highlight regional campaigns and struggles. The IMA aims to strengthen solidarity and resistance across borders through these coordinated actions.
The meeting concluded with the members committing their support for the identified plans, with further coordination and discussion to be outlined in upcoming meetings leading up to the 6GA.
