Happy 44th Anniversary Mission for Migrant Workers (MFMW)
On March 2, the Mission for Migrant Workers (MFMW) joined the migrant community in celebrating International Working Women’s Day at the One Billion Rising event. This occasion also marked the 44th anniversary of MFMW, which began with a Thanksgiving program in the morning. The celebration commenced with a Holy Mass officiated by Father Dwight Dela Torre, Canon of St. John’s Cathedral, accompanied by the PIC Choir.
Ms. Cynthia Tellez, General Manager of the Mission for Migrant Workers, welcomed attendees to the 44th Anniversary celebration and announced the provision of free services at the “Give Care to Caregivers” Service Fair, running from 10 AM to 4 PM. The fair offered a range of services, including guidance and support, free massages, mental health checks, Chiropractors led by Well-Adjusted HK, Chinese medicine consultations, acupuncture, blood pressure and blood glucose tests, financial literacy information, and a photo booth.
Service providers who supported the event were acknowledged on stage and received tokens of appreciation.
The program featured vibrant dance performances from the migrant community, representing various countries, which added joy and energy to the day. Representatives from grassroots migrant organizations, including the Asian Migrants Coordinating Body (AMCB-IMA HK), expressed their gratitude to MFMW for its partnership and support, empowering migrants within the community.
Johannie Tong, Community Relations Officer, delivered a closing message emphasizing the importance of MFMW’s collaboration with grassroots migrants. She highlighted that migrants are the experts on their own issues and are best positioned to advocate for themselves.
Tong reaffirmed MFMW’s commitment to supporting vulnerable migrants and expressed sincere thanks to the One Billion Rising Committee and all migrant partners for allowing the anniversary celebration to coincide with International Working Women’s Day.
